The Austrian family-run brewery Schremser is nestled in a protected national park in north-eastern Austria, close to the Czech border. First mentioned in 1410, the original building still stands and has survived numerous fires. In 1838 the Trojan family purchased the brewery and it remains in the family, now in its sixth generation under Karl Trojan who took over in 1991.
Schremser embraces modern brewing techniques while keeping a strong connection to tradition. The brewery works closely with local farmers in the national park to produce high-quality malting grains, which are roasted to Karl’s exacting standards. The water used is “primary rock water” drawn directly from a natural source; its soft, low-lime character makes it ideal for brewing lagers and pilsners.
Today, Schremser is recognised as one of the premium boutique beer brands in the Vienna beer scene.
